Refinished Furniture

Joseph and I have a new bedroom set, just for the cost of paint!

My mom had an old, oak antique bed that is 7ft tall.  She has had it in storage for over a year, and Joseph and I decided we were finally ready for a change.  So, we tackled it.  We brought it all the way back to Jackson, cleaned it up, stained it a dark chestnut, and it's BEAUTIFUL!

(The lighting is terrible in these pictures...it was night time)

I made a new pillow to match the chocolate brown:

The dresser and chest of drawers were also refinished to match the bed! FUN!!

Before:

For both, we used an oil based paint stripper to strip the flat top so that we could stain it to match the bed.
Just brush on the stripper with an old paint brush.  Put on a really thick layer of the stripper and it will start bubbling.  WEAR GLOVES.  If it it gets on your skin, it WILL BURN!  Use a paint scraper to get the bubbled up paint off.

Use a brillow pad to get the paint out of the crevices.  After it is all stripped off, this is what it looks like!
Miss mustardseed is my role model and she has How-to's on her blog: missmustardseed.blogspot.com

I used Annie Sloan Chalk paint in Old White to paint the base of both pieces of furniture and Louis Blue to paint the drawers of both.  Turns out you don't have to prime anything you paint with this chalk paint.  It is really thick, creamy, and chalky (just like antique painted furniture).  Southern Institue of Faux Finishes is the only place in MS to sell this paint.

It took two coats to cover both pieces that were black!  We stained the wood top a dark chestnut color (the same color as the bed)
